Smallmouth are aggressive and plentiful. Look for those water breaks and rocks along with bridge pillars. Best for canoes or bank fishing if you can find a nice land owner. There are the usual carp and catfish but I’ve caught a few drum, rock bass snd largemouth as well. Pike and Muskie are in the river but obviously tougher to find

Awesome park with plenty of fishing spots

This review is about Tenney Park and the surrounding area including the locks and breakwall. This is both my first year living in Madison and first year that I’ve gotten into fishing. Tenney Park has become one of my favorite spots for several reasons. As far as fishing goes, it has several different types of water that can cover basically any type of fishing you want to do. First there’s the shore of Lake Mendota with a breakwall that offers plenty of good spots to cast into the lake. Then there’s the mouth and stretch of the Yahara River that runs between lakes Mendota and Monona. And finally the huge pond throughout the park that offers plenty of great spots for all types of fishing as the water from the lake and river are directly connected allowing water and fish to move back and forth. The park in general is very well-maintained and clean. Excellent, family-friendly spot for fishing and plenty of other outdoor activities.
