West neck is a pretty cool place off the beaten path that is perfect for small boats and kayaks, with some limited access for those on the shore. The water is dark black and swamp like which perfectly conceals trophy size gar, crappie, channel catfish, bowfin, largemouth bass, white perch, yellow perch, pickerel, sunfish, and even some rare visitors like blue catfish, striped bass, and the occasional saltwater fish that swam all the way up the intracoastal waterway. Almost anything can swim up into this quiet and beautiful creek and there’s always something biting. The bass fishing is fairly pressured from monthly tournaments but a bright pink bass worm, spinnerbaits, or swimbaits still gets them to bite hard.
I found this spot from fishbrain. Need base access to fish but I came here about 5:30am right before sunrise. As the sun came up, top water activity was exploding. A little luck with two small bass. Areas to fish are a little slim due to a lot of bush and tree but it’s manageable. Worth a shot!
