In regards to fishing, there is no doubt that the Welland river holds the most consistent bite (specifically in Welland). Personally I've found success with carp/catfish/walleye/pike/musky/bass and it required little expense on bait. Either worms, emerald shiners, corn, or perch coloured baits. Accessibility can sometimes be an issue, there is little care for boaters or shore fishing on the cities end, the single boat launch on River road is steep and gravelly. The water clarity is also constantly changing. Sometimes it is chocolate milk, other times completely clear. I hope that in the future this spot could be nutured into a top teir fishing location, which I know is a little ambitions. Lots of litter in high current choke points as well as rotting smells from the Aquaducts, it's quite gross. Ultimately, kayakers, and explorers willing to treck threw some brush may be rewarded with exceptional fish.
