Echo Lake is a true gem among the dozens of nearby options due to its variety of fish and beauty. During the summer it is quite busy with boat traffic (busy by MONTANA Standards). Good size largemouth and smallmouth average 2-3 pounds and you may see a few in the 5 pounds. It’s not uncommon to catch Northern Pike while fishing for bass, and that keeps it fun. There are also nice rainbows and yellow perch here. Generally, when one species isn’t biting, the other is. Boat access is easy, but is one ramp and you will find lines in the summer. Hangout on once of the islands for some privacy.

Every time I go to this lake, I am never disappointed. Every time I go, I usually catch many good sized rainbow trout. They are always good eating, and good size in order to enjoy a good fight. I usually fish this lake twice a week, and always come home with lunch. I have done some kayak fishing on this lake, but I honestly prefer the bank fishing. Try different techniques and lures, and you will go home with a good catch.
