The Lake Carlton lakes (Turkey Ford and Lake Thomas) are behind a guard house in a private community. I’ve lived here 6 years and have been fishing here since I first arrived. Lots of species, and the lakes are very healthy. If you get through the gate, please be ethical fishermen/women and pick up trash. Take your trash, used lures and line with you. I’d like to continue fishing here and I don’t want to lose that privilege. I also STRONGLY advise you to release the fish you catch. Though the fishing is great, it used to be a lot better. These waters are still recovering from a massive hurricane Irma kill and there are also quite a few people who keep their catches around these lakes.
Absolutely full of monster bass. This lake is hardly ever fished and the water is crystal clear. Its a aquifer fed lake so its extremely healthy and full of bass, gar, catfish, bream, and crappie. It is surrounded by private property, so you need permission to come in. Call up Camp Giliead and ask for permission. If there schedule is good, they might let you launch a boat on there ramp.
