Anglers 16 years of age and older are required to sign up as a State Reef Fish Angler if they fish from a private recreational boat for any red snapper. To sign up as a State Reef Fish Angler, call 1-888-347-4356.

The federal for-hire season opens June 1, 2025. Anglers fishing from federally-permitted for-hire vessels in federal waters may retain 2 fish per person with a 16-inch minimum size limit.

The 2025 Gulf red snapper season is open to those fishing from private recreational vessels or charter vessels. The summer season will begin over Memorial Day Weekend, from May 24 – May 26, and reopen June 1 through July 31. The fall season will include the following dates:

  • December 5 – 7
  • December 12 –14
  • December 19 – 21
  • December 25 – 28 (Christmas weekend)
