Regulations for top species
Scup
The maximum number of individual fish legally harvested per harvester per day. Bag limits are only for properly licensed anglers actively harvesting the species. People who are not actively harvesting or are not properly licensed (if a license is required) may NOT be counted for the purpose of bag limits.
No person shall harvest any individual fish less than the minimum size limit.
Total length means the straight line distance from the most forward point of the head with the mouth closed, to the farthest tip of the tail with the tail compressed or squeezed, while the fish is lying on its side.
Minimum size: 9.5 inches for shore anglers (including Enhanced Opportunity Fishing Sites)
Private: May 1 – December 31: 30 scup per angler, Minimum size: 11 inches
Party/Charter Vessel Bonus Season (For paying passengers only):
- May 1 - August 31: 30 scup per angler, Minimum size: 11 inches
- September 1 - October 31: 40 scup per angler, Minimum size: 11 inches
- November 1 - December 31: 30 scup per angler, Minimum size: 11 inches
Summer flounder

Aug 2 - Oct 15: minimum size = 19.5-inches
Federal regulations are waived for Summer Flounder, and recreational anglers shall follow regulations for the state in which their catch is landed.
Summer flounder may not have heads or tails removed or be otherwise cleaned, cut, filleted or skinned until brought to shore, with the following exception: the white side fillet or white skin only of a legal size fluke may be removed to use as bait. The carcass of the fluke with dark side completely intact must be retained for inspection of size limit and counts against the possession limit.

Striped bass

These regulations are for marine waters (south of George Washington Bridge) and Delaware River:
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced the adoption of new regulations in the State's marine waters for recreational Atlantic striped bass fishing. The new recreational slot limit of 28 to 31 inches takes effect immediately and is set as required by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) to reduce recreational harvest.
Hudson River (north of George Washington Bridge) striped bass regulations:
- Minimum size = 23-inches; maximum size = 28-inches
- Open Season = April 1 through November 30.
