Cedar Beach is a great spot to take kids fishing or even try to put dinner on the table for yourself. There are multiple species to catch year round from stripers in the early part of the year, to blackfish off of the jetty later in the year. I’ve fished more in the summer during the “dog days” and had a great day. Not necessarily with size, but with quantity and species. I have caught about 10 different species of fish from this spot. Blowfish and kingfish are prevalent during August along with sea robins and still some porgies. Stripers and small blues can be found in the back part of the harbor year round but more in the mornings during the summer months. Fluke fishing is always kind of tough in the sound in the recent years however there are always a few keepers that come up so it can’t hurt to try and catch a keeper. I have also caught bergalls, sea bass, and mackerel here before as well. All you have to do is use a small hook with a piece of clam during high tide to catch fish.
