Jamaica Pond is known for it’s Brook, Brown and Rainbow Trout population (as stocked by Masswildlife) it is also home to a variety of freshwater fish species. This includes Largemouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Yellow Perch, Blue Gill, and Pumpkinseed Sunfish. Broodstock Salmon are also stocked when available. Being a glacially formed “kettle hole” pond, it is quite deep for it’s 68 acre size, averaging 25ft with a 53ft deepest hole. Pretty outstanding for a city pond! It can get crowded as it is in Boston, with a heavily used paved walking path all the way around. (I prefer more secluded spots personally.) Still giving Jamaica Pond 5 stars because you couldn’t ask for better freshwater fishing just 2 1/2 miles from Fenway Park.
The most underrated pond in newton. Many people don’t catch fish and complain about it but there are a ton of bass in there and some good 2-3 pounders too. There are also some bluegill beds along the shore of the pond that are fun to target if the bite is off.
