Barkley Canal is an awesome place to shore fish if you are able to navigate down to the water, lots of cover in the rock rip raff. Accessibility is tough but well worth it. I was working the bottom just above the rocks and caught smallmouth, largemouth, and catfish. Only thing I didn’t like was some of the boat fisherman started crowding me while I was fishing, close enough to where I could have bounced a lure off their boat, which I considered 😬. Most of the boaters were courteous and navigated around me giving me plenty of room to fish. The other problem down there is the boat traffic going through the canal, makes a lot of wake and makes it alittle rough down there. Other than that great spot to fish, lots of diversity in fish species.
You must know someone who lives in the area or have permission by the land owner, from where I fish and which I do have permission. Other areas of lake can be accessed from either side of the body of water. Campsite available off of Benton rd. Located behind storage facility.
