These regulations apply statewide unless Site-Specific Special Regulations apply to that body of water. Click here to see Site-Specific Special Regulations Statewide includes all state and federal refuges, parks and monuments; open areas do not include any area closed to hunting, fishing, or trapping.

Special Regulation Areas:

  • Community fishing lakes: bag limit = 4 catfish
  • Community fishing ponds: bag limit = 2 catfish
  • Bright Angel Creek: bag limit = unlimited striped bass
  • Colorado River - From Separation Canyon to Hoover Dam (including Lake Mead): bag limit = 20 striped bass 20-inches in length or larger; unlimited for striped bass under 20-inches in length.
  • Colorado River - From Hoover Dam to Davis Dam (including Lake Mohave and Willow Beach): bag limit = 20 for striped bass 20-inches in length or larger; unlimited for striped bass under 20 inches in length; striped bass may be taken by spear or spear gun from that portion of Lake Mohave between Hoover Dam and Cottonwood Landing.
  • Lake Powell: bag limit = unlimited striped bass; striped bass may be taken by spearfishing during daylight hours.
  • Lake Pleasant: bag limit = unlimited striped bass; striped bass may be taken by spear or spear gun.


Spear and spear gun fishing for striped bass is valid at Lake Powell, Lake Mead, Lake Mohave (between Hoover Dam and Cottonwood Landing) and Lake Pleasant. Daily bag limits vary between locations. See Special Regulations for more details.
