Sunset lake is a nice fishing lake. Great for kayak fishing or even a flat bottom boat. I fish at this lake a lot because I live 5 minutes away. it's a perfect place for me to stop and get in some casts when I have a little time to burn. Sunset lake does not give up bass very easily. You most definitely have to be on top of your game to trick the bass in this lake. These bass have probably seen every common popular lure a million times, ex. spinner baits and frogs. The bass will bite these baits. I just would not recommend starting out using those kind of baits for bass here. I will usually switch to those if the time of year is right or the water clarity is right or they just aren't biting any of the other stuff I'm throwing out there. I've done really well out there with the Berkely Gilly, chatter baits do well with a nice swim trailer. I also have good luck using a skirtless chatterbait with some type of soft plastic swim bait on the hook. I have caught several two and three pound bass out of here. Both largemouth and spotted bass. And if you look in my photos you'll see where my wife caught one that was just over 8 lbs. at this lake. and I have seen several other monsters cruising around the banks. Overall Sunset lake is a convenient, clean, well stocked and unique bass lake. However, if you are not on top of your game or if you aren't trying new or less common baits and techniques, chances are you will get skunked here.
I’ve caught enough hogs out of here so figured I’d write a review. I’m going to be talking about bass. This lake is the perfect kayak lake, not too big or too small. It’s one of the very few bodies of water that I have fished that allows you to cover the whole 2 miles of bank without trespassing and have the chance to catch a giant. It’s quite the learning curve to fish this lake, but once you figure them out, it’s fantastic. Every time I go here now I catch at least one 3-4 lbs. my biggest out of here was a 7 back in April. They get even bigger than that in here. There’s plenty of food and cover for these fish to grow big, and from what I’ve found the water quality here is amazing. The lake itself is pretty clean, and I do my best to get all the line out of the water whenever I’m there. You wouldn’t figure a body of water like this would produce big bass, but just take a look at my profile and you’ll see there are plenty of big ones in there. Keep in mind, this lake gets pressured pretty hard, so stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new techniques might be necessary. There’s also nice catfish, crappie, bream, and white bass here so there’s fish for everyone. There’s also some giant grass carp in there so if you want to try tackling one of those, good luck to you haha.
