If your looking to scratch the trout fly fishing itch this is the place to go. The best stretch for fly fishing is from evergreen down to Morrison. The fish here are mostly brown trout with an occasional  rainbow in the mix. The average sized fish here is probably a 6-10 inch brown trout with a 12 incher being a good one. making it ideal for a smaller fly rod such as 3wt.  But don’t be fooled if you work hard and explore you definitely can run into the occasional 14+ inch brown trout even though they are rare. This place fishes best in the summer when dry fly action takes off.  This place has really good dry fly action as most fish are eager to rise. Best flies would include small hoppers, elk hair caddis, adams, smaller stimulators, and a Griffith gnat. For nymph flies flies like worms can be useful when the water is high and off color but other than that any basic attractor nymph will do. Such as hares ear, pheasant tail, zebra midge, frenchies, prince nymph, and copper johns in sizes 16-20. Best method for fishing here in summers would be a dry dropper fish with a high floating dry fly  and then hang one of the mentioned nymphs below it. Access to the creek is pretty good as well with a lot of the easiest access being in and around the parks like lair of the bear park. But there’s are pullouts along the road in bear creek canyon near Morrison which provide some more adventurous access. And there’s access through the town of evergreen as well which can be excellent too. Best flows to fish this creek are anywhere between 20-70 cfs I would say but it is more dependent on flow consistency and heavy rains in summer can make this place very muddy. Bear creek can also suffer from hot water temperatures in the late summers if flows are low over  period of time and can put this place out of commission due to hot temps over 67 degrees Fahrenheit so watch out for that. But to conclude this is great place near home to go fly fishing and scratch the itch.
