Green Swordtail (Xiphophorus hellerii). 
Feb 14, 2024. Still haven’t finished posting pics from Kauai in February. 

Went back to a spot that we hiked to a couple days before but this time with some fishing gear to try to catch a swordtail. I really wanted one of the males with the long, bright green tails but couldn’t get one to bite and stick. 

Cool little creatures.

Female green swordtail platyfish. Still no luck on scoring a male but I had a few nibbles. 

It's not a ten pound bass or even a southern platy but I am thrilled with this female green swordtail! The hooks were slightly larger and I missed more fish than caught but it's another new life list species for me. I initially thought this was a platy fish and apparently only the male swordtails have an elongated tail fin. On another note the main reason for visiting Orlando was to stop at Kel's Reel Repair in search of replacement parts for the old Stradic FH series I have been collecting. The owners there are fantastic and actually had a few parts I needed in the used parts bin. I'm still looking for an oscillating slider part number RD7950. It's a long shot but if anyone happens to have one hit me up!
