It had 18 scales on the caudal peduncle - this is the sole reason I chose to ID as a Bluespotted Sunfish.

Fishbrain wouldn't let me put the length in for this fish because it "exceeds the maximum length for this species." 4.25 inches is big for a Bluespotted Sunfish! Not bad for my first.

I don't know what fish it is but I think it's a blue spotted sun fish

After fishing the swamp stream and catching the shield darter, i walked to the swamp and found a good spot to fish. There was a tiny 2-3ft channel that had deeper water in the middle with lots of vegetation, so I dropped a small piece of worm on a tanago down and after a short wait was able to pull up a really good looking Blue-spotted Sunfish. This has been on my to-catch list for a while so im pretty happy to finally get it
