Mediterranean Banded Killifish

Most chaotic catch of my life. 

The smallest hooks I have are size 26, but they are barbless. This means that a lot of the time when I catch a fish, it manages to unhook itself and escape. I knew that this would be an issue starting the hunt for these little fish, but didnt realize how big of an issue it was going to be until I started trying to catch them, and found out that the size 26 was even pretty large for their little mouths. After about an hour, I was starting to worry it may not happen. I had 3 hours there, so I kept on trying. Eventually a little larger male came and bit the hook. I set the hook and had the fish on, but it shook it right after it got out of the water. It went for a short flight and landed near the rocks. I did not see where the fish landed, but assumed it had fallen into one of the holes at the rocks and swam back into the water. As I ran closer to where it landed, I saw it lying perfectly still on a tiny algae patch between the rocks, and leaped onto the patch to grab it before it could flop off. I grabbed the entire algae patch, and the killifish was inside of it. I managed to get it onto the bank and into the phototank, and was extremely happy and relieved. I think that I owe the successful catch of the fish all to insane luck

To my knowledge, I am only the 4th person in the world to ever catch this fish on hook and line 🌎 super cool
