The giant wrymouth is a distinctive eel-like fish with an elongated, laterally compressed body and a large mouth. It inhabits the soft, muddy bottoms of the North Pacific Ocean, often found at depths of 50 to 2,000 feet. Typically growing up to 40 inches in length and weighing around 10 pounds, it is a benthic species that feeds primarily on invertebrates.
