How do I check fishing regulations for a specific spot?
Where do Fishbrain's regulations come from, and how current are they?
Fishbrain's regulations run on Fish Rules, our fisheries-regulation technology. The data comes from a team built specifically to track state and federal rule changes. Regulations are pulled directly from state agency sources and updated as they change, so you're checking today's rules, not a static list.
Can I see bag limits, size limits, and season status by species?
Yes. Tap a species inside the Regulations view for that water and you'll see whether the season is open or closed, the bag limit, minimum/maximum size, and any prohibited methods.
Do regulations info work if I don't have signal?
Yes — if you're offshore or out of range, manually select your location in the app to pull up the relevant regulations instead of relying on live GPS.
Can Fishbrain help me avoid restricted, protected, or private areas?
Fishbrain's map shows public and private land boundaries for Pro users to help you find legal access points. The map doesn't flag marine sanctuaries, or no fishing zones specifically, however. Confirm those boundaries with your state wildlife agency before fishing an unfamiliar area.
