I only fish with lures, mostly soft plastics (Fiiish Black minnow types, mostly sizes 1 and 2).Casting out to about 35 to 40 meters out and bouncing them along the bottom, mostly sand but some patches of weed but easy enough to pull through and obviously huge boulders at your feet. You can catch small groupers (apparently very good to eat according to the locals, just watch out for the spines….), I caught juvenile amberjack (good fighters) and unfortunately the invasive silvercheeked toadfish a few times, don’t touch bare handed and do not got anywhere near that mouth! It literally bites though your lure and many time you only get the head of your Fiiish minnow lure back, it is also deadly to eat. I use a metal fish grip to hold them while unhooking. As far as water depth is concerned you are looking at 6 to 8 meters at the far East end of the harbour wall (the entrance) and about 5 to 6 meters alongside the north boundary. You can park your car at the harbour, near the Gelateria of Porto Latchi first thing in the morning, before sunrise. The bites seem to slow down an hour or so after sunrise (and it gets hot obviously). When picking a spot make sure you have identified where you will land your fish as some of the boulders are hard to get down to the water’s edge. There is a good fish tackle shop (Blue Adventure, on the Main Street) that sells most types of lures of various sizes and other types of tackle, rods, line, hooks, spear fishing stuff, worth a look if you are other there or need to top up.
