Rappahannock Darter
Etheostoma vexillare 

A pretty unknown species of darter, the Rappahannock Darter. These have a pretty small range, only being found in the Rappahannock River above the fall line, and take the place of the tessellated darter. It was harder to catch these than a glassy, just because i couldn’t find them. At the end of the day in the last few minutes, a friend told me the exact spot where they should be, and sure enough I found a bunch there. I was able to get 2 of them in just a couple minutes. This species also gets me to 175, which was my overall goal for the year. Maybe ill reach 200, but 25 more species is really a stretch, especially that its starting to get colder now and there will only be another month or two where the fish are actually active
