Grinder of a day on the kayak yesterday! Caught 5 or so bass all 2.5 or under on the dark sleeper in the morning. The wind started to pick up around 9:30-10 and I wasn't able to find the offshore bite I was looking for. I decided to switch to a bluegill swim jig with a big keitech trailer for some more bulk, and started to catch a couple more decent bass, but still none of the big fish I was looking for. 

I knew I needed to make an adjustment. With the sun high in the sky and water temps in the mid 80's, I figured there had to be some good fish holding under laydowns in the shade. I saw an opening near the tip of a laydown, skipped my jig into it, felt the "tick", and knew it was too early to have hit a branch lower in the water column. Big hookset, awesome fight, and lo and behold, a beautiful 4.6 pound largemouth! I kept her in the net and revived her between pictures and taking a weight, as with the high water temps the fight can really stress these fish out.

Back at it again today! I left the finesse rods at home and decided to do a little power fishing. I caught a few bass, with this healthy tank being the largest at 4.25 pounds. I hooked up with her on my new jig rod and the fight was awesome, everything felt dialed in - I'm so happy to have caught this fish, and to have the confidence that the new rod can put them in the boat. Can't wait to get up and try to get some more tomorrow! 🤙
