Pro staff interview with James Armstrong

How did you get into fishing?  

I got into fishing at the tender age of 5 or 6. I have a photograph of me as a young lad, legs dangling over a wall, sitting there fishing for mullet with my dad at a harbour here in the UK. My father got me into fishing for small silver fish on the float on rivers, before I developed further and turned into an out and out specimen hunter.

What does fishing mean to you? 

Fishing is my life; Every spare minute I am thinking about my next angling adventure. My hobby is fishing and my job is fishing. It means the absolute world, mainly because it gives me my escapism from the hustle and bustle of daily life. I can retreat to my fishing spot, just my pooch Barley and I, and that's it, no one to bother me other than a big old specimen hopefully. I love the wild, I grew up in the country, and so I have learnt a respect for my surroundings, and the wildlife around me. I like nothing more than waking up at first light to hear the birds singing their morning chorus as the beautiful orange sunrise fills the sky. There aren't many other people in the world that experience sights like this on a regular basis. 

What type of fish do you enjoy catching the most?

Now most people would think that I would say carp...but believe it or not, I love catching big perch the most. I can say exactly why because they aren't the biggest fish that swim; but their belligerent aggressive characteristics stands them out making them a very appealing predator to target. They're also very unique to look at; those prominent black stripes and emerald green bodies makes them very elegant to look at. 

What’s your favorite place to fish?

My favourite place to fish has to be Cabo San Lucas in Mexico...although I have plans to visit Costa Rica soon which may overtake this. 

What’s your favorite quote?

My favourite quote is: "The sun always shines on the righteous".

What do you like or enjoy most as your role as Fishbrain Pro Staff?

I love Fishbrain because they are the most forward thinking angling-dedicated social media platform in the world. They are always developing and the app is getting better and better. I also love the fact that I can interact with like-minded anglers across the globe!
