Learn what a Snell knot is, when it is used, and how to tie one in our tutorial and video.
Time to give your knot skills a shot. Knowing how and when to use certain knots is important. Such as the Snell Knot.
The snell knot is perfect when used with octopus hooks, circle hooks, and flippin’ hooks as well.
Snell knot allows for better hook sets. The way the knot works it triggers the hook to turn into the fish lip which results in better, quicker hook sets. Another thing to note is that the snell knot goes best when used with either fluorocarbon line or monofilament. I wouldn't use with braided line.
I apply the snell knot more times then not when using a flipping hook set up with a Texas rig. It's a deadly combo when bass fishing here in South Florida when fishing heavy cover. Just a simple bullet weight, flipping hook, and crawdad soft plastic and ready to go. My use is when fishing the mullet run and need a strong knot to keep both my live 12” mullet and the snook I am hoping eats it.
Above I broke down a few instances in which I think the Snell knot comes in handy. Check out the quick video that I made to show you how I do my snell knot. If you start looking online it seems there are many different ways to snell a hook and to be honest there are. The method in the video is a simple way to tie a snell knot and has yet to fail me yet.

Good luck and give it a shot and add another knot to your fishing skills! Tight Lines!!!
